CoolSculpting® vs Liposuction

Losing weight is a challenge for just about all of us.

You might be eating your best and working out regularly, but still not getting the results you want. When it comes to weight loss and body fat reduction, you have options. Sculpt your body into the shape you want with either CoolSculpting® or liposuction. What are the differences?

Liposuction vs CoolSculpting®

You want to lose weight as quickly as possible without paying an arm and a leg.

The biggest difference between the two treatments comes down to over or under the skin. The determining factor is typically how much fat you are trying to get rid of.

CoolSculpting® is a newer method that essentially freezes the fat cells underneath the skin with a vacuum placed on a cool pad over the skin. There are no incisions, though it can be uncomfortable during the massaging part and for a few days after. This process only works well if you have small amounts of excess fat. CoolSculpting is most commonly used for:

  • Abdomen
  • Flanks
  • Inner thighs
  • Under the chin
  • Back
  • Outer thighs

Liposuction is much more popular and well-known. This procedure inserts a tube through a small incision into the area that is being targeted after numbing solution has been applied. The fat is sucked out and can remove large fat areas in the body. In 2018, liposuction was the 2nd most popular elective, cosmetic surgery in the US. Liposuction can cover larger areas, including:

  • Abdomen
  • Back
  • Waist
  • Buttocks
  • Hips
  • Thighs
  • Lower legs
  • Arms
  • Neck
  • Face
  • Arms
  • Calves
  • Area under the chin
  • Upper Arms

—and more!

Typically the recovery time is faster with CoolSculpting, but liposuction removes more fat per session. Some choose to use liposuction to redirect fat to other areas of the body to improve the body contour. There is very little downtime and few risks involve.

How Much Does CoolSculpting® or Liposuction Cost?

CoolSculpting takes more sessions, while liposuction tries to complete the job in one session. While both will depend on what areas you want to adjust, CoolSculpting® is typically around $2,000-$4,000 for a personalized plan, while liposuction runs $3,500 on average.
