What are Cherry Angiomas?
If you’ve noticed tiny red bumps on your skin that tend to bleed when they are bumped, then you may have cherry angiomas. Cherry angiomas are easy to confuse with spider angiomas however, the main distinction between the two is the reddish extensions that spread out from the red spot of the spider angioma.
Cherry angiomas are growths that contain broken blood vessels in the skin due to proliferation of the endothelial cells and are usually not concerning, nor a medical emergency. However, they can be irritating, unsightly, and rarely cause bleeding. At Genesis Cosmetic Laser Center, we offer laser cherry angioma removal, so you don’t have to worry about these bumps any longer.
What causes Cherry Angiomas?
The exact cause of cherry angiomas isn’t known. There may be certain genetic factors that make some people predisposed to get them. They’ve also been linked to pregnancy, exposure to chemicals, and climate. There also appears to be a link between cherry angiomas and age. They often begin to appear when individuals reach age 30 and seem to increase in size and number with age.
They are NOT dangerous, unless they are causing irritation there is no medical reason to remove them.
