The 6 Steps of a ZO Stimulator Peel
Medical Grade ZO Chemical Peels at Genesis Cosmetic Laser Center is the perfect “Lunchtime” peel with no downtime! A highly effective treatment for the many signs of skin aging, this peel is ideal for treating Melasma, sun damage, fine lines, uneven texture, large pores, dull skin, and even acne!
Having rejuvenated, flawless skin doesn’t require hours spent at the spa. Cleverly coined “the lunchtime facial,” ZO Ossential Stimulator Peel can miraculously smooth away fine to moderate lines and wrinkles, prevent breakouts, reduce the appearance of age spots, correct rough skin texture, and even out skin tone.
The fast but effective 6 step process is gentle on the skin but strong enough to make a visible difference for a refreshed and brightened look.
Step 1: Cleanse
Before the treatment begins, your Genesis Cosmetic Laser Center Medically Certified Aesthetician will apply ZO’s Offects Hydrating Cleanser to remove any superficial impurities. This specially designed formula is made with panthenol and allantoin that effectively works to cleanse the skin without causing any dryness or irritation.
Step 2: Exfoliate & Activate
After cleansing, the Offects Exfoliating Polish will be gently massaged into the surface of your skin. The polish is made with ultra-fine magnesium crystals for gentle yet powerful exfoliation. Once the polish has been applied, it will be activated with Offects Exfoliating Polish Activator.
Step 3: Prep, Peel & Neutralize
Your aesthetician will start the peel process with ZO’s Ossential Peel Prep. Between one to three layers of the Ossential Stimulator Peel will be applied, followed by ZO’s Ossential Peel Neutralizer to balance, and restore your skin’s pH.
Step 4: Replenish
The Ossential Growth Factor Serum is used next to rejuvenate your skin, encourage cellular function and collagen production. Simultaneously, the growth factor serum will actively reduce degradation, increase density, and work to restore skin elasticity.
Step 5: Calm & Nourish
Ommerse Daily Renewal Creme will be applied next to the face and neck. This product contains anti-irritation and anti-inflammatory extracts, enzyme derivatives that repair damage caused by sun exposure and more. The application process is both calming and relaxing while providing your skin with the nourishment it craves most.
Step 6: Protect
The final step in the Genesis ZO Stimulator Peel process is to apply Oclipse Sunscreen & Primer SPF 30 to the face and neck. This sunscreen and primer provide your skin with broad-spectrum protection while also acting as an excellent makeup primer. It contains natural melanin, which makes it a strong antioxidant for your skin.

Noticeable Results with Just One Peel
Just one peel is all you need to see results; however, maximum benefits can be achieved with a series of three to four peels carried out at two-week intervals. The timing of any peel is essential, as fresher skin becomes more evident in several days following treatment. We always recommend giving your skin plenty of time to react and heal after any peel treatment.
The stimulator peel by ZO at Genesis can also be followed by a mask (one of the following):
- Aloe Hydra Masque – hydrating and calming.
- Bio-Sulfur Masque – deep pore cleansing to reduce oiliness, clogged pores, and irritation.
- Brightening Masque – help to brighten and even skin tone for pigmented skin.
A series of 3-6 stimulator peels are recommended to improve skin health; these should be repeated every 2-3 weeks alongside your ZO homecare regime. The masks are an added treatment to complete the peel process and calm and rejuvenate the skin.
ZO 3-Step Peel
The Genesis ZO 3-Step Peel is the most aggressive peel Genesis Cosmetic Laser Center has to offer but is still considered a medium strength peel because it only penetrates the epidermis layer of the skin. It requires a prep period of 6-weeks. We prescribe a skincare routine that will insure an even peel application as well as optimal results. The products in the pretreatment protocol are a cleanser, an exfoliator, a toner, and Daily Power Defense. You will also need to start a medical grade retinol that is at least .5% strength. Again, this peel is considered medium strength and combines 10% TCA, salicylic acid, lactic acid, and high-dose retinol.
The biggest benefit of the Zo 3-Step Peel is that it is a peel for anyone – any skin type and any skin color! It will help improve skin barrier function which means your skin will function more effectively. Damage happens when free radicals build up in your skin, but with a proper functioning barrier, damage will occur less often. It also improves the skin’s ability to repair and renew itself. When the peel is performed in conjunction with a medical grade skincare routine, the benefits also include antioxidant protection, DNA repair and anti-inflammatory benefits. The peel can be repeated every 3-4 weeks as an initial series and repeated 2-3 times per year for maintenance.
The actual peel process is a little more intense than the Vi Peel. When the peel is applied there is a gradual increase in the feeling of heat in your face. There are multiple passes with the peel solution. Then, just when you think I can handle this, there is a 6% Retinol cream applied to the skin and it feels hot. Once that is applied, there is a hydrating creme placed as the top and final layer. The hydrating creme takes the heat right out of your skin. Afterwards, your face will feel warm, tingly, tight, and it might become itchy the night of your treatment. The next morning, wash your face with a gentle cleanser and apply the 6% Retinol. However, there is nothing to fear. It does not burn like it does on the day of the peel.
Typically, your face will start to peel on day 3 (if treatment day is day 1) and continue to peel for another 4-5 days. The heaviest peeling will occur on days 3-5. Your instructions simplified are no exercise while peeling, wash with a gentle cleanser, no exfoliation or retinol, apply gentle moisturizer, and SPF SPF SPF! It is important to apply SPF every two hours, wear a hat, glasses, and a face covering. Avoid boating and swimming as well. These instructions can be applied to any chemical peel.
Recap of 3 Steps for Genesis ZO 3 Step-Peel
Step 1 of the system’s three steps is the peel itself, which is formulated to remove the outermost layer of skin. Composed of salicylic acid (17%), trichloroacetic acid (10%) and lactic acid (5%), the peel also contains saponins to minimize inflammation and glycerin for hydration.
Step 2 is application of the Stimulating 6% Retinol Creme. Applied after the peel solution, the cream works to stimulate cellular function at a deep skin level. The results include collagen enhancement as well as firming and wrinkle reduction.
Step 3 is the application of the Calming Crème Post Procedure Skin Relief. The cream works to minimize inflammation and irritation that may result from the first two steps, as well as restore the moisture balance of the skin. You will be advised to take the cream home to apply twice daily following the in-clinic treatment to speed the healing process.
The most common area treated is the face, however they can be performed on the neck, chest, hands and even the arms and legs.
Skin peels often achieve instant, glowing results and tighter, smoother, brighter-looking skin after just one peel (although a series of 4-6 peels provides best overall results). A ZO homecare program should be used for approximately 6 weeks prior to having this peel. Peeling will normally occur 3 days post peel and end on day 5.
The anti-aging benefits of peels are amazing. Dr. Obagi claims that if you do this peel three times a year, you will never age.
