What is TCA?
Trichloroacetic (TCA) peels are a type of chemical peel used to treat skin concerns including signs of aging, sun damage, hyperpigmentation, and scarring. These are most performed at medium strengths which require some downtime but offers amazing results of significant improvements to the skin’s appearance! A TCA peel chemically exfoliates the skin and reduces fine lines, hyperpigmentation, melasma, acne scars and sun damage. In essence, the SkinCeuticals Smart TCA Peel improves skin texture!
How Does it Work?
TCA breaks up a protein found in the skin called keratin. This allows the keratin to lighten in color from not functioning properly and peel away from the skin over the course of several days. Healthier, smoother skin is revealed as layers of damaged skin are removed.
How Many Treatments Will I Need?
TCA can substantially reduce sun damage and hyperpigmentation with a single treatment. However, with multiple treatments, it can effectively treat acne scars. Here at Genesis Cosmetic Laser Center, we recommend a series of 3!
What is the Recovery Like?
After your TCA, the skin will be swollen and red for several days. Your skin will take 7-14 days to heal, but redness can persist. You will likely schedule a follow-up visit to ensure the healing process goes smoothly! Use mild cleansers and always wear a broad-spectrum sunscreen with a high SPF daily!! DO NOT PICK OR PEEL SKIN. This can lead to scarring and nobody wants that!
